چکیده

The theoretical expectation of the high mass of > 400 eV for the particles constituting the dark matter in dwarf-spheroidals as an artifact of the implicit assumption that the density of particles vanishes at the visible edge. On the contrary if our Galaxy and the dwarf-spheroidals are embedded in a neutrino condensation of the dimensions of the cluster then mv 10 eV can accommodate all the observations.

Possible evidence for MeV dark matter in dwarf spheroidals.

The observed 511 keV emission from the galactic bulge could be due to very light (MeV) annihilating dark matter particles. To distinguish this hypothesis from conventional astrophysical sources, we study dwarf spheroidals in the region observed by the International Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Laboratory/SPI such as Sagittarius. As these galaxies have comparatively few stars, the prospects for 511 ke...

Decaying dark matter in the Draco dwarf galaxy

Context. The sterile neutrino is an excellent dark matter candidate, which can be searched for in a wide range of astrophysical sites. It has previously been shown that the optimal search strategy is to consider dwarf galaxies belonging to the Milky Way. Aims. We search for line emission from decaying dark matter. Methods. We analyse publicly available Chandra X-ray observations of the dwarf ga...

A lower limit on the dark particle mass from dSphs

Here we make the first attempt to put precise lower limits on the mass of the dark matter particle, assuming it is a sterile neutrino. We begin by making the first published cored dark halo fits to the line of sight velocity dispersions as a function of radius (taken from Walker et al. 2007) for six of the Milky Way’s dwarf spheroidal galaxies. We use Osipkov-Merritt velocity anisotropy profile...

Constraints on the global mass to light ratios and extent of dark matter halos in globular clusters and dwarf spheroidals

The detection of stars in the process of being tidally removed from globular clusters and dwarf spheroidals in the Galaxy’s halo provides a strong constraint on their mass to light ratios and on the extent of their possible dark matter halos. If a significant dark matter component existed either within or beyond the observed stellar distribution, then stars would not be removed. We use numerica...

The counterparts of Local Group dwarf spheroidals in nearby clusters

In this contribution, we report on the discovery of dwarf spheroidals (dSphs) in the core of the Fornax cluster. Their photometric properties – like magnitude, colour, surface brightness – are very similar to those of Local Group dSphs. However, at a given total magnitude, dSphs in Fornax seem to be more extended than their Local Group counterparts. The membership of several dwarf galaxy candid...
